- A complete holistic approach to the public transport and roading needs of Auckland and basic infrastructure
- Great urban design, environment and heritage protection
- A city that works for its residents and is action and people driven
Value for money and the lowest possible rates for Aucklanders by:
- An initial "value for money" external evaluation of Council activities and culture
- Rates increase being linked to the Council's audited rate of inflation. (Note this assumes no surprises on "opening the books")
- Fairer rates based on a lower property value charge and a higher uniform charge component
- Focussed and finite targeted rates for infrastructure - only if accepted by stakeholders
- Less ratepayer burden - (including pro-active action for a greater share of tax revenue from central government to pay for additional legislated responsibilities and for leaky building costs)
- Opening the books on Councils leaky building liability and reviewing the strategic approach taken
- Sensible debt policies but only when a well formulated business case is established
- Reviewing Metrowater charges to ensure they are kept as low as possible whilst maintaining a first class water and wastewater service.
- Retaining Auckland's airport asset
More effective and efficient governance for Auckland by:
- Optimising the governance of Auckland through sensible reform and cooperation and after public consultation
- Ensuring basic services are right before embarking on major new projects
- Reducing the bureaucracy and the number of Council committees and streamlining Council processes
- Opening meetings for greater transparency unless justified as manifestly not in the best interests of ratepayers
- Respect for private property and rights
- Greater accountability from Council and its staff
- Not tolerating "political correctness" in Council activities
Growing the economy of Auckland by:
- Fostering, developing and sponsoring major events with demonstratable payback
- A drive to reduced compliance costs where quality not compromised
- More use of partnership models to leverage investments, utilising external experience and capital to improve effectiveness and timeliness of projects
A safe clean, vibrant city and region by:
- Forging closer practical and working relationships with Police
- A zero tolerance approach to graffiti and introduction of innovative ways to share responsibility for detection and elimination
