Sam is married to Jules, and is a business advisor. He has an MBA from the University of Cambridge, and MCom(Hons)/ LLB degrees from the University of Auckland. His experience includes being a consultant for Macquarie Bank (Sydney), financial analyst with Bankers Trust (London) and solicitor at Russell McVeagh (Auckland).

Sam sits on the Boards of Penrose High, Primary Health Organisations of New Zealand, Great Potentials and was Chairman of Table Tennis New Zealand.
